Ken Coyle, CPA, Managing PartnerMcCauley Nicolas Wins National AwardI am thrilled to tell you that McCauley Nicolas has been named a winner of the 2008 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility! This is the first year that businesses in the greater Louisville community were able to apply for the prestigious award, which recognizes organizations that are dedicated to making work "work" for both the employer and the employees. The scoring process was rigorous. First, employer responses were measured against national data collected by the Families and Work Institute. Then, our employees were surveyed regarding their individual experiences with flexibility and other aspects of an effective workplace. One third of the final score was determined by employer responses and two-thirds by employees' responses. As a winner, McCauley Nicolas ranks in the top 20% of employers nationally in terms of flexible work programs, policies and culture.Eileen Pickett of Greater Louisville, Inc. presented the award after remarks by Mayor Jerry Abramson at the 1st Annual Sloan Awards Luncheon on September 11th. We were also honored on September 9th at the Republic Bank We CARE Awards, which recognized exemplary community services among local businesses and employees. Of course, being invested in the growth and success of our employees, clients and the community is not news to us, but we are extremely honored to receive public recognition for the things we do quietly every day! Tax Tips
Mike Grinnan, | The IRS Wants You!Wouldn't it be great to know you were going to be selected for an audit before your return was prepared? You could cross every "t" and dot every "i" and have a complete file with documentation ready to produce. The Internal Revenue agent calls to give you the news, and you calmly respond: "No problem, when would you like to meet?" You arrive at your arranged appointment time and hand over the complete set of supporting documents proving every penny of deductions on your return. The agent smiles at you, says "thank you" and rewards you with a "no change" audit report.continue reading... | | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Keeping Up | IRS Boosts Mileage Rate AgainIn recognition of recent gasoline price increases, the IRS has adjusted the optional standard mileage rates for the final six months of 2008. The rate will increase to 58.5 cents a mile for all business miles driven from July 1, 2008 through December 31, 2008. This is an increase of eight (8) cents from the 50.5 cent rate in effect for the first six months of 2008. The new six-month rate for computing deductible medical or moving expenses will also increase: from 19 cents to 27 cents per mile. The rate for providing services for charitable organizations, which is set by statute, not by the IRS, will remain at 14 cents a mile. Keep in mind, taxpayers always have the option of calculating the actual costs of using their vehicle rather than using the standard mileage rates.continue reading... | Be sure to access MNC's online newsletters for Family Business, Construction and Medical Practice advice and information.
